The public preview of the capability to block unmanaged customizations in Microsoft Dataverse environments is now available. This feature empowers Power Platform system administrators to enforce stricter controls over customization changes, ensuring that only approved application lifecycle management (ALM) processes are utilized, particularly in test and production environments.
Here are the key aspects of this feature:
- Activation: Administrators can enable or disable this feature from the Features section of the environment settings within the Power Platform admin center. By default, it’s disabled.
- Restricted Operations: Once activated, the following actions are restricted within the environment:
- Import of unmanaged solutions is blocked.
- Creation of new solution objects, such as apps, tables, and forms, is prohibited.
- Customization of existing solution objects is not allowed.
- Users attempting unmanaged customizations will encounter an error message indicating the restriction.
- Exempted Operations: Some operations are not affected by this feature, including:
- Changing environment variable values.
- Enabling or disabling of solution objects (e.g., turning Power Automate flows on or off).
- Assigning ownership or sharing of table records.
- Operations like removing active customizations.
- Creation and export of unmanaged solutions.
It’s important to note that this feature cannot be enabled in the default environment.
